Among their evidence for that is the Almighty’s saying: {And they followed what the devils recited to the king of Solomon, and Solomon did not disbelieve, but the devils disbelieved. They taught the people magic and what was revealed to the two angels in Babylon, Harut and Marut, and they did not teach anyone until they said, “We are only a test, so do not disbelieve.” Then they learned from them that by which they would separate a man and his wife. And they do not harm anyone with it except by the permission of God, and they learn what harms them and does not benefit them. And they have known that whoever buys it will have no share in the Hereafter. Evil is what they sold their souls for, if they only knew. (Al-Baqarah: 102) The significance of the verse is that God told in it that magic has tangible effects.
